Bill of Lading
A Bill of Lading is Evidence of the Contract of Carriage.
The Bill of Lading has three functions: a receipt, a contract of carriage and thirdly it is transferable document of title.
In most cases this is the contract. However, the fact of it not being issued does not mean that no contract exists, as the contract commences at the time of booking and the subsequent issue of the Bill merely confirms this arrangement and provides the evidence of the contract thereby agreed.
